The reward for information that could lead police to the location of missing 7-year-old Harmony Montgomery rose to over $100,000 this week, according to Manchester, New Hampshire police. A full timeline of events.
Easter of 2019 was the last time the biological mother of Harmony Montgomery spoke to the then 5-year-old girl. Crystal Sorey, told NBC10 Boston she spoke to Harmony over Facetime. Sorey originally told officers in November 2021 that she hadn’t seen Harmony in over six months, but then said it had been since Easter 2019, according to a police affidavit.
In 2018, Sorey was struggling with substance abuse issues and lost legal custody of the girl, NBC reports.
Legal custody was granted to Harmony’s father, Adam Montgomery. He was living in Manchester at the time and blocked all contact. Sorey lives in Massachusetts.
In October 2019, Manchester police say they saw Harmony during a call for service at a residence in the city. According to police, this was the last time the girl was seen in Manchester.
Two years later, on New Year’s Eve 2021, Manchester police received a report that Harmony Montgomery had not been seen since late 2019.
In a statement, Manchester police department said: “The circumstances surrounding this prolonged absence are very concerning and are being thoroughly investigated.”
From December 2021 to January 2022, authorities focused on a Manchester, New Hampshire home located on Gilford Street, investigating several times.
“[The house] is a focus of the investigation because it is the last location where Harmony was known to reside before her disappearance in 2019,” authorities said in a news release.
On January 4, 2022, authorities arrested Adam Montgomery, Harmony’s father, on multiple charges, including failing to have Harmony in his custody. He was also charged with second-degree assault stemming from a 2019 conduct against Harmony, as well as charges of interfering with custody and child endangerment, Fox 35 reported. Adam Montgomery was accused by police of “purposely violating a duty of care, protection or support.” He pleaded not guilty.
On January 5, 2022, the wife of Adam Montgomery, and stepmother to Harmony, was arrested on charges of welfare fraud, accused of collecting food stamps for the girl even though she was no longer living with a couple. The woman pleaded not guilty.
On January 8, 2022, Crystal Sorey spoke to the media, and issued a message to her missing 7-year-old biological daughter: “Hi, baby. If you can see me and hear me, I want you to know that I never stopped looking for you and I won’t stop fighting until I find you, okay? You stay strong and mommy’s right here fighting for you. I love you!”
On January 9, 2022, authorities in New Hampshire returned to the last known location of Harmony, the home on Gilford Street, to continue their investigation. A ground heater, which helps thaw soil, was spotted in the driveway, NBC reported, saying it was unclear what investigators uncovered or recovered from the property.
On Wednesday, January 12, 2022, Manchester, New Hampshire, Police Chief Allen Aldenberg announced during a press conference that the reward for information about Harmony Montgomery had reached $104,000, Fox reported. The chief added that authorities are currently investigating around 300 tips.
“I would hope that it wouldn’t take money for somebody to do the right thing, but people have different motivators in their life,” said Aldenberg. “So if money is one of them, then come forward with some relevant and viable information and let us know.”
Responding to a reporter’s question about the status of the investigation, Chief Aldenberg replied: “I’m a little discouraged, but we remain determined in finding Harmony.”
